Comet
03:09
|
|||
see the twinkling lights
like some distant stars burning in the night
hear the falling rain
a haunting melody driving me insane
like your love
like the love we used to share
like a curse
like a pain i cannot bear
and all my life
i've been waiting for a moment
when a hand would hold to mine
but you held me and you dropped me
like comet falling down
spinning off into a whirlwind
till i crashed into the ground
and i wonder and i wish for
just a hand to raise me up
for a loving hand to hold me
dry my tears and fill my cup
see the open windows
out through the shutters where the laughter flows
hear the street cafe
see the lush green park where all the children play
like your love
you can trample until it dies
like a curse
as happiness passed me by
and all my life
i've been waiting for a moment
when a hand would hold to mine
but you held me and you dropped me
like comet falling down
spinning off into a whirlwind
till i crashed into the ground
and i wonder and i wish for
just a hand to raise me up
for a loving hand to hold me
dry my tears and fill my cup
and i wonder and i wish for
just a hand to raise me up
for a loving hand to hold me
dry my tears and fill my cup

Lady Margaret was standing in her own room door
A comb in her long yellow hair
When who did she spy but Sweet William and his bride
As to the church yard they drew near
The day passed away and night coming on
Most of the men were asleep
Lady Margaret appeared all dressed in white
Standing at his bed feet
She said how do you like your bed
How do you like your sheet
How do you like your fair young bride
That's lying in your arms asleep
He said very well do I like my bed
Much better do I like my sheet
But most of all that fair young girl
That's standing at my bed feet
Then once he kissed her lily white hand
Twice he kissed her cheek
Three times he kissed her cold corpsy lips
Then he fell into her arms asleep
Well the night passed away and the day came on
And into the morning light
Sweet William said I'm troubled in my head
By the dreams that I dreamed last night
Such dreams such dreams as these
I know they mean no good
For I dreamed that my bower was full of red swine
And my bride's bed full of blood
He asked is Lady Margaret in her room
Or is she out in the hall
But Lady Margaret lay in a cold black coffin
With her face turned to the wall

Betty
03:11
|
|||
it's been a year since we were parted
i'm a long way from where i should be
wish we could go back to where we started
or you could come here and lay with me
this trench is dark and the nights are long
in the mud and the rain it's an endless hell
no comfort around me, it feels so wrong
but i look at your picture and all is well
betty betty my pretty baby
when i come home i'm gonna make you my lady
pray for me, that this night won't leave me dead
i love your sweet brown eyes and your dark brown curls
but soldiers all want a blonde factory girl
betty i can't get you out of my head
i got your name in ink on my arm
so i'll never forget what i'm fighting for
i pray that you will be safe from harm
and you'll be waiting when i'm done with this war
betty betty my pretty baby
when i come home i'm gonna make you my lady
pray for me, that this night won't leave me dead
i love your sweet brown eyes and your dark brown curls
but soldiers all want a blonde factory girl
betty i can't get you out of my head
I bought a ring for you
i wear it around my neck
and I'll put it on your hand one day
i wrote this song for you
and i'm dreaming of when i won't have to say
betty betty my pretty baby
when i come home i'm gonna make you my lady
pray for me, that this night won't leave me dead
i love your sweet brown eyes and your dark brown curls
but soldiers all want a blonde factory girl
betty i can't get you out of my head

Pleasant and Delightful
03:43
|
|||
It was pleasant and delightful on a midsummer's morn
And the green fields and the meadows were all covered in corn;
And the blackbirds and thrushes sang on every green spray
And the larks they sang melodious at the dawning of the day,
And the larks they sang melodious (3x) at the dawning of the day.
Now a sailor and his true love were a-walking one day.
Said the sailor to his true love, “I am bound far away.
I'm bound for the East Indies where the load cannons roar
And I'm bound to leave you Nancy, you're the girl that I adore,
And I'm bound to leave you Nancy (3x) you're the girl that I adore."
Then the ring from off her finger she quickly withdrew,
Saying, “Take this, dearest William, and my heart will go too."
And as they were embracing tears from her eyes fell,
Saying, “May I go along with you?” “Oh no, my love, farewell,”
Saying, “May I go along with you?” (3x) “Oh no, my love, farewell,”
“Fare thee well my dearest Nancy, no longer can I stay,
For the topsails are hoisted and the anchors aweigh,
And the ship she lies waiting for the fast flowing tide,
And if ever I return again, I will make you my bride,
And if ever I return again (3x), I will make you my bride.”

The Road of Suffering
04:24
|
|||
in the first few days of winter
with the snow thin on the ground
he picked up his hat and coat
and walked the hard road down
he had no money, name or any
thing left to his name
his love was gone, his heart was dead
the cold had blown out his flame
and if the snow would ever melt
he would run straight to her
but the ice had made a wall
around his heart, like armour
but if he saw her face again
then he would be free
free to live and love like you and me
as he runs from all his problems
far off down the road
we see a shining point
where he’ll learn to share the load
where the pain no longer lingers
where the dust will finally clear
where his friends will wipe away for him
the last long lonely tear
so listen to his story
apply it to your life
happiness can surface
from any long hard bitter strife
